– The Path to Avalon
Having been told by Professor Eddington, a close friend of Lara’s father, that Richard Croft believed that the entrance to Avalon was beneath the Mediterranean Sea, Lara travels there to investigate. After talking to Zip and Alister on her laptop, with Alister expressing his doubts about Lara’s mother being alive, Lara dives to the bottom of the sea. Here she finds three submerged ruins, two small side ruins and one tower ruin. In all the ruins Lara will find wheel-handles to a portal-puzzle in the tower ruin. When she places them in the portal, she can rotate the three section to open the portal. Lara swims on through this tunnel, where a tentacle is hanging through a gap ahead. When Lara gets near this tentacle, it snaps back and retreats through the ruin. (This is later revealed to be the tentacle of a Kraken) Lara carries on through the ruin until it opens up into an open area. Lara climbs around the wall here until she reaches a set of carvings on the wall in front of her. Lara believes these carvings to be of early Germanic design, before deciphering them as Land of The Mist: Niflheim, the Norse underworld. “Not Avalon exactly, but the Norse equivalent” muses Lara, before continuing through the ruins.

– Niflheim
After deciphering the ruins back in The Path to Avalon, Lara comes across a giant Kraken blocking the path ahead. “Lovely” says Lara while recording the Kraken. After exploring the ruins, Lara comes across two gears with tentacles intertwined in them. By activating the gears, Lara climbs up to a platform above the Kraken. She raises the platform and grapples to an alcove ahead. She pulls a lever and shoots a weak link in the chain holding the platform, causing it to fall on the Kraken, killing it. Lara climbs down and proceeds through the newly unblocked doors.

– The Norse Connection
After beating the Kraken Lara enters the inner sanctum of the temple. Here she finds two pressure plates that secure the bolts of the door to the chamber with Thor’s gauntlet. Before Lara can return to the ship with the artefact, she is attacked by a group of mercenaries and robbed.

– God of Thunder
Having had Thor’s Gauntlet stolen from her by Amanda’s Mercenaries, Lara races to the surface to reach Amanda’s ship. Having retraced her route through Niflheim, she reaches her yacht and sails it to the nearby ship.

– Realm of the Dead
After meeting with Jacqueline Natla in the cargo hold of Amanda Evert’s freighter Lara has to escape from the sinking ship.

– Remnants
Following the hints given to her by Jacqueline Natla Lara travels to the west coast of Thailand, in search of ruins her father explored before her.

– Bhogavati
Lara has reached the area from where she can get to the Hindu underworld, the Bhogavati.

– The Ancient World
Discovering the powers of Thor’s gauntlet, Lara manages to open a massive stone gate. In the inner chamber she finds a pedestal similar to the one where she found the first gauntlet in the Mediterranean. It is empty. Lara discovers traces of a map that has been once located above the entrance but has been destroyed. Carved into the pedestal’s surface she finds a message left by her father, reading “Natla, I see your goals and am your puppet no longer. RJC”, which leads Lara back home to the tomb of her grandfather.

– Puppet No Longer
With the plan to return to her boat Lara exits the central chamber. When she passes the gate, Thor’s Gauntlet powers down fully drained of energy.

– The Unnamed Days
After returning home to retrieve the second of Thor’s Gauntlets and to find Odin’s Map, both placed there by her father, Lara follows the trail to Mexico to search for Thor’s Belt.

– Xibalba
It’s unclear whether Xibalba was thought to be a supernatural afterlife or a city of people who worshipped death. Commonly believed to have been in Guatemala, it appears Xibalba is farther to the northwest than previously thought. If the pattern of Thor’s artifacts giving rise to local underworld myths hold, then I might find things akin to the thrall tigers my father brought back from Bhogavati, Thailand.

– The Midgard Serpent
After opening the gate to Xibalba in the previous level, Lara arrived in a large chamber with the Lords of Xibalba after overcoming a series of pits with ramps in the passages. She will spend most time with opening the portal guarded by the Lords. In order to do that she first has to turn them to face outwards. This opens a series of doors leading into four side chambers, the Rattling House, the Razor House, the Flame House and the Jaguar House. In each of these houses Lara has to retrieve a key which has to be inserted into the Great Seal in the middle of the court with the Lords. After that she can move the Lords inwards and use the two pressure plates to open the portal.

– Land of the Dead
Having collected Thor’s Belt Lara needs to exit the Maya underworld and return to the real world.

– Gate of the Dead
Spiral downwards to pass through the Gate of the Dead, and right to pass through the Gate of the Living.

– Valhalla
Hall of the Slain. The Valkyries escorted the souls of warriors who died gloriously to this great hall of Odin. Each day they would slaughter each other in battle scrimmages to prepare for the final battle of Ragnarök, only to be restored and repeat the exercise again the next day. This site represents the clearest connection between the myth as we understand it and the reality of these animated corpses put here the protect the artifact the Norse came to call Mjolnir.

– Rituals Old
Inscribed in stone around the doorway leading to Thor’s hammer, Odin wrote: “Thor, greatest of my sons, and the greatest weapon on Earth, are at last reunited. Upon my return, through rituals old and the power of Mjolnir, together we will open the seals of Helheim and fulfil our destinies.” I don’t like the sound of old rituals, or of fulfilling destinies given how the ultimate destiny of the Norse is destruction at the battle of Ragnarök, but at least I have the power of Mjolnir and the means to extract the information I want from Natla.

– Helheim
World of Hel. Here the goddess Hel, depicted as a woman on one side and a corpse on the other, presided over all souls that did not got to Valhalla after death. Judging by the ruined road and drawbridge, this site must be even more ancient than Niflheim to have been above sea level at some point. The top is heavily encased in permanent sea ice, so there may have been another, dryer way to get inside from somewhere above had Natla given me more precise coordinates, but I think I’d rather go in through the front door.

– Yggdrasil
The World Tree and binding element of all nine worlds of the Norse universe. Supposedly Helheim was situated under the roots of Yggdrasil. There is another myth that a great serpent, Níðhöggr, gnaws at the roots of Yggdrasil. Possibly this is another manifestation of the Midgard Serpent, which supports the theory that this site houses something monstrously world-threatening.

– Out of Time
Natla reveals to Lara that the midgard serpent is a metaphor for the earths tectonic ridges and that the Jormungandr mechanism is poised to attck the earths weakest point to initiate The seventh age by destroying the Planet. Once Lara has shut down the mechanism. Lara throws Mjolnir at Natla plummeting her to the Eitr below. Lara and Amanda use the Helheim Dais to return back to Nepal.
