In the video, Lama can be seen planting a kiss on a young boy’s lips as a sign of respect. However, the monk then proceeds to stick his tongue out and ask the child to suck it. The incident sparked outrage on social media, with many calling out the monk for his behaviour.
Following the backlash, Lama issued a public apology on his verified Twitter account. He expressed regret for the incident and stated that his actions were meant to be innocent and playful. The monk also apologized to the boy and his family, as well as his friends worldwide, for any hurt that his words may have caused.
