Windows 11 is still new and comes with a lot of bugs and glitches that doesn’t get fixed even with the latest update. Sometimes when you right click on any folder or files, Windows File Explorer will freeze and crash, closing all the opened folders. The Photos App also crashes randomly with the error “the specified procedure could not be found.” Here’s what the Event Logger shows after the crash:

Faulting application path: C:\WINDOWS\explorer.exe
Faulting module path: C:\Windows\System32\Windows.UI.Xaml.dll

The culprit is the new context menu and reverting or restoring it back to the older and more user friendly context menu has fixed the file explorer crashing for most users.

New to Old Context Menu

First open Command Prompt as an Admin, then copy and paste the following.

Command Prompt

Note: This won’t install and 3rd party app. It’s just a simple registry value change. If you’re not comfortable about changing anything, just use the old context menu until Microsoft provide a fix on their next updates.

Type or copy and paste the following and press Enter to execute

– To Disable the new Context Menu –

reg.exe add "HKCU\Software\Classes\CLSID\{86ca1aa0-34aa-4e8b-a509-50c905bae2a2}\InprocServer32" /f /ve

– To Enable the new Context Menu –

reg.exe delete "HKCU\Software\Classes\CLSID\{86ca1aa0-34aa-4e8b-a509-50c905bae2a2}" /f

– To Disable Explorer command bar –

reg.exe add "HKCU\Software\Classes\CLSID\{d93ed569-3b3e-4bff-8355-3c44f6a52bb5}\InprocServer32" /f /ve

– To Enable Explorer command bar –

reg.exe delete "HKCU\Software\Classes\CLSID\{d93ed569-3b3e-4bff-8355-3c44f6a52bb5}" /f

Restart your PC or File Explorer to take effect. Enjoy!
