The suspect’s first shot missed, making everyone wonder for a few seconds what was going on, but before his personal bodyguards were able to react, a second shot was fired, fatally hitting Shinzo Abe in the chest.

Gun crime is extremely rare in Japan due to their strict gun law. The killer was able to make, what appears to be a 3D-printed shotgun. It’s possibly one of the reasons why Abe’s secret service did not react in time as they were not expecting a someone would use a gun.

The police found explosives in Tetsuya Yamagami’s home. Still no clear information about his motives.

Shinzo Abe is 67 years old (1954–2022).
